Start with reliable labels
A scanning workflow begins before a worker holds the scanner. Assign an unambiguous product reference, agree the stock unit and label physical locations. Two different packs should not silently share an identity when their quantities differ. Test printed labels at the distance, lighting and wear conditions found on your floor.
Keep a pick connected to its order
Assigned picking work needs the source location, product, required quantity and applicable lot or serial information. Workers confirm their work in the relevant task, rather than record a free-standing scan with no operational context. Packing then checks the goods against the connected order before dispatch.
| Test | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Correct product and location | The intended task can proceed with the recorded quantity |
| Wrong product or another client's stock | The mismatch is resolved before confirmation |
| Less stock than the task expects | A shortage follows an exception workflow |
| Repeated confirmation | The stock movement is not counted twice |
Plan for the exceptions workers actually meet
Labels get damaged, cartons arrive short and stock can be in the wrong place. Agree who can investigate, substitute or approve an adjustment. A permission error should lead to a supervisor, not a shared manager password. When a connection fails, check the saved task state before repeating a consequential action.
Validate your existing devices
Veristow supports browser-based work with scanner input and supported camera flows. Keyboard-wedge scanners and device cameras have different focus, permission and label-reading behaviour. Bring the actual device, browser and label to the demo. Device compatibility and any terminal integration must be checked before deployment; a camera is not a guarantee of industrial scanning performance.
Common questions
Do we need new scanning hardware?
Not necessarily. Start by checking the scanners and supported mobile devices you already use. The pilot should include label quality, browser permissions and the exact operational workflow.
Is a barcode the same as a location code?
No. A location code is the readable address. A barcode or QR symbol can encode that address so a worker can both read and scan the same location.
