One SKU is not one stock position
The same product can belong to two clients, sit in several bins and carry different lot or expiry details. A total alone cannot tell a picker what is safe to fulfil. Review the client, warehouse, location, stock unit and status together. Configured lot and serial tracking add the identity needed for the relevant product.
| Owner / location | Quantity | Status | Operational meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Client A / A01 | 40 units | Available | Eligible for the applicable allocation rules |
| Client A / A02 | 10 units | Reserved | Already committed to work |
| Client B / Q01 | 6 units | Quarantined | Await the quality decision |
Follow the movement, not an overwritten balance
Receiving, putaway, reservation, picking and dispatch create a chain of stock movements. The ledger keeps the movement's warehouse and client context. Investigate a discrepancy from its source record and use the authorised correction workflow. Editing a spreadsheet total cannot explain who moved the goods or why the balance changed.
Count the floor and handle differences
Cycle counts compare physical observations with recorded stock. Separate the count from the decision to adjust stock, and investigate unit mistakes, misplaced cartons and unposted movements. Replenishment work moves stock into the locations needed for fulfilment; it should be reviewed alongside availability and current tasks.
- Choose a representative client, location and product for a pilot count.
- Test a shortage and an excess, including the approval path.
- Check the ledger and client-facing balance after an authorised correction.
Make the stock unit explicit
A carton is not always a fixed number of pieces. Configure product packaging and units before imports, labels and picking. Keep mixed cartons, loose units and damaged stock identifiable. Veristow's visual warehouse provides location context; measured packaging and maintained records determine how useful space and quantity displays will be.
Common questions
Can two clients store the same SKU?
The stock owner must remain part of the inventory context. During onboarding, validate client product references, opening balances, allocation and portal access using a shared-SKU example.
Does the map physically detect stock?
No. The map visualises recorded warehouse data. Scans, task confirmations, counts and any agreed tracking integrations keep those records current.
